German Pension Points (Entgeltpunkte) Calculator
In the German pension system your contributions are converted into Entgeltpunkte. Earn the national average salary in a year and you collect exactly one point. This calculator turns your 2026 gross pay into points and projects a monthly pension.
What is this tool?
The Deutsche Rentenversicherung converts every contribution year into Entgeltpunkte (EP). You earn 1 EP in a year when your gross pay equals the Durchschnittsentgelt (average earnings of all insured). The 2026 provisional Durchschnittsentgelt is €51,944.
Your later monthly pension = Entgeltpunkte × Zugangsfaktor × aktueller Rentenwert. The 2026 Rentenwert (West and East unified) is €40.79 (valid since 1 July 2025), rising to €42.52 on 1 July 2026.
How it works
The tool divides your contribution-relevant annual pay (capped at the 2026 pension contribution ceiling of €101,400) by the €51,944 average. The result is the points you earn that year. Multiply by your years of contribution for total points, then by the Rentenwert for an indicative monthly pension at the standard retirement factor of 1.0.
2026 Reference Values
| Value | 2026 |
|---|---|
| Durchschnittsentgelt (average earnings) | €51,944 / year |
| Pension BBG (ceiling) | €101,400 / year (€8,450 / month) |
| Rentenwert (per point / month) | €40.79 (rises to €42.52 on 1 Jul 2026) |
| Standard retirement age | 67 (born 1964+) |
The Pension Formula
Monthly pension = Entgeltpunkte × Zugangsfaktor × Rentenartfaktor × Rentenwert. With standard retirement (Zugangsfaktor 1.0) and an old-age pension (Rentenartfaktor 1.0), this simplifies to points × Rentenwert. A worker with 45 years at the average salary holds ~45 points and receives roughly 45 × €40.79 ≈ €1,836/month gross.
How to use

- Remember the Rentenwert rises to €42.52 on 1 July 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many points do I get per year?
You earn 1 Entgeltpunkt for a year at the average salary (€51,944 in 2026). Earn twice the average (up to the ceiling) and you get ~2 points; earn half and you get ~0.5.
What is the 2026 pension contribution ceiling?
Contributions – and therefore points – are capped at €8,450/month, i.e. €101,400/year in 2026. Pay above that generates no further points.
What is the Rentenwert?
It is the euro value of one point per month. For 2026 it is €40.79 (since 1 July 2025), increasing to €42.52 on 1 July 2026. East/West values were unified in 2023.
At what age can I claim the full pension?
The standard retirement age is 67 (for those born 1964+). Retiring earlier cuts the Zugangsfaktor by 0.3% per month; later raises it by 0.5% per month.
Do non-work periods earn points?
Some do: child-rearing (up to 1 point/year per child born after 1992), care periods, and parts of unemployment and education count as Anrechnungszeiten.
Is the projected pension gross or net?
The figure shown is a gross indication before the deductions for pensioners' health and care insurance and any income tax.

Tips & Advice
Wage growth is ignored here – real careers rise over time, so a flat projection is conservative for younger workers.
Child-rearing, care periods and some unemployment time also credit points even without pay.
The public pension replaces roughly 40–50% of pre-retirement net pay for an average earner; plan a occupational or private pillar to fill the gap.

Limitations
This is a simplified projection. It assumes constant real earnings (no wage growth), the standard Zugangsfaktor of 1.0 (age 67, no early/late adjustment) and Rentenartfaktor 1.0 (Altersrente). It ignores the actual wage-indexing of past points, mini-job thresholds, marginal employment, and the fact that the Rentenwert itself is inflation-adjusted every year. The €42.52 value applies only from 1 July 2026. For a binding forecast use your official Rentenauskunft / Renteninformation from the DRV.
