🧾 VAT Calculator
Calculate VAT for any Spanish-speaking country in seconds. Choose the country and rate, decide whether to add or remove tax, and get the breakdown between net, tax, and total.
What is this tool?
VAT (Value Added Tax), known as IVA in Spanish-speaking countries, is the most common indirect tax in Hispanic nations. It is applied to the consumption of goods and services and is added to the sale price. Each country sets its own rate: Mexico charges 16%, Spain 21%, Argentina 21%, Colombia 19%, Chile 19%, Peru 18%, and other countries have different rates.
Understanding how VAT works is useful for both consumers and merchants. When you buy a product, the price you pay includes VAT. If you need to know what the price is without tax, you must remove the VAT from the total. If you have a net price and want to know the final price with tax, you must add VAT.
Adding VAT means multiplying the base price by (1 + rate). For example, if a product costs 1,000 pesos net and the VAT is 16%, the price with VAT is 1,000 × 1.16 = 1,160 pesos.
Removing VAT means dividing the total price by (1 + rate). For example, if the price with VAT included is 1,160 pesos and the VAT is 16%, the price without VAT is 1,160 ÷ 1.16 = 1,000 pesos, and the tax is the difference: 160 pesos. How it works
The calculator uses a simple mathematical formula. When you choose to add VAT, it multiplies the base amount by (1 + rate). For example, with a rate of 16% and an amount of 1,000, the result is 1,160 (1,000 × 1.16), where 1,000 is the net, 160 is the VAT, and 1,160 is the total.
When you choose to remove VAT, it divides the total amount by (1 + rate). With a rate of 16% and a total of 1,160, the result is 1,000 (1,160 ÷ 1.16), meaning the price without tax is 1,000 and the VAT paid is 160.
The calculator displays three values in columns: the net (without VAT), the tax (VAT), and the total (with VAT). You can switch between preset countries or use a custom rate. All calculations are done in your browser, without sending data to any server.
